I am replacing a left turning motor and putting in a right turning motor this is a twin motor boat. my prop now turns out, if I turn tranny pump180 degrees which way will it make my prop turn then ?These are v-drive set ups as the motors are in backwards Thanks Vinnie
Simple Anwer is change the vee drive oil pump sleeve 180 degrees from what it was - if that tranny was hooked up to the old motor.
The trannys should accept either rotating engines.
Listen Vinnie - THIS GETS Complicated more than you know.
- 1 - Prop shaft rotation
- 2 - engine rotation at dampner/ flywheel
- 3 - You can end up with prop turning the wrong way for the right reason.... not a joke here
I did this wrong one time... YOU DO Not want to make the mistake I made with my Borg Vee Drives. Yes the engines are in backwards.
My Point is this.. When you end up with the install you want your stbd prop shaft turning CW clockwise
AND if you have counter rotating (opposite rotating engines) one CW and one CCW - Then the port prop shaft should spin CCW
This means if both engines are the same rotation then both prop shafts should spin CW viewing from aft of stern or behind the boat - looking foward towards the bow.
I do not know about Paragon drives but the vee drive plate you have described sounds just like mine - except mine also had an arrow showing which way you want the input shaft to spin
So I will guess if the engine is spinning CW (you are looking at the rear of the engine now and facing the stern of the vessel - You will have to turn around and face the Vee drive and turn the plate CCW - as now you are facing the Bow.
MY Mistake was following boat mfg guide lines - and it turned out they put stbd engine on port side and visa versa. They did admit is has happened to them on ocassion - I was fuming MAD.
My engines (backwards facing the stern) stbd rotated ccw and port spun CW
My suggestion is to put CW engine on the stbd Side. And put the CCW engine on the Port side - but check w/paragon first..
Get some pro help - do not rely on my post - or any post here on this matter
